Enviroglass was announced National Winner 2007 for innovation by the Community Recycling Network Scotland.

We were also named National Winner 2004 in the Small Business Section by VIBES and “Best Community Project for Recycling” in 2003 by The National Recycling Awards.

Our operations are accredited by SEPA through the Producers Responsibility Obligations.

We are a member of the AECB (Association for Environment Conscious Building).

Enviroglass, as part of the Shetland Amenity Trust, also holds the Gold Standard in the Green Tourism and Tidy Business Award Schemes and are accredited with Investors in People.

Our Glasscast products conform to British Standard BS EN 12390 - 3: 2002 ‘Testing hardened concrete compressive strength of test specimens’. Copies of the test certificate are available upon request.

The environmental information we supply on our products is ISO 14021 compliant.

As we care passionately about the environment, as well as finding new and innovative ways to utilise recycled glass, we also strive to reduce our carbon footprint throughout our activities. Examples of this include:

  • Glass is recycled and crushed on site, eliminating travel miles.

  • The glass crushing process makes extensive use of reconditioned and recycled machinery as opposed to new.

  • Our glasscast operation uses recycled plastic moulds.

  • We use mineral based dyes and release agents, eliminating the use of chemicals.

  • We are investigating the capture of rainwater for use in our products and for wash down of machinery.

  • Glasscast products are shipped on pallets which are reclaimed and recyclable.

  • We are in the process of identifying ways in which to power our small factory by renewable energy rather than mains electricity.

  • Enviroglass is a trading arm of the Shetland Amenity Trust – a charitable trust with a wide environmental and heritage remit. Any profits generated are reinvested for the benefit of the environment.

  • Our products are inert and can be safely land filled at the end of their natural life. However, it is preferred that the product is crushed in line with conventional concrete based products and re-used for low grade backfill or infill, for example.

We also continue to develop new and environmentally sustainable products in line with customer demand.
